Wonderland Meetup (July 10, 2000).
ClumsySkywalker and I got there at 10:30 am (I was positive we were going to be late). Everybody was really nice about waiting for us. I headed up to Stacy, and when I'd told her who I was, and she'd seen CS coming up behind me, she gestured to her and said "Oh you must be her mom!". Needless to say it was hilarious right from the start. Not long after, someone was talking to Miro, and he didn't even know it. This provoked Stacy to comment "That was so much worse than my Mom comment!". We assembled for a few group pictures, Stacy gave us all a CD single (courtesy of the band) and two OLP posters (courtesy of Sony), and then in we went.
After meeting up inside the front gate, after we'd all gotten our tickets, CS, Kruno, Miro, Shivon, and Ian decided that they'd like to try Cliffhanger (a ride where the victims, er, passengers are flipped around in their seats while being flipped around as a whole on the mechanism. Not to mention getting soaked - the streams of water underneath the ride made sure of that!). While they were waiting in line, most of the rest of us (what a mouthful) chose to head over to the Spinovator, a ride quite similar to the famed 'Teacups' at DisneyWorld/Land. The ride's gravity pushed the person sitting on the inside of the basket onto the person on the outside, and needless to say, I ended up smushed against Lindz for most of the ride (sorry!). Once we'd finished up on that one, we managed to stumble our way over to the Cliffhanger, where our five brave friends were just boarding. After witnessing the whole thing, we couldn't help but chuckle a bit. ClumsySkywalker's first words to us after returning from the ride were "I'm so happy I could hug someone!" As much as we appreciated the offer, we turned it down.
Then most of the group, save for Eugene, Katie, and I, went over to the DragonFire, and spent some time on there. It wasn't the smoothest of all rides, according to the passengers. It 'bit' Katie, and Raven's seat was wet. With that, we headed around the park, where several other CCers decided to brave the Drop Zone, Nightmares (a practically vertical Ferris wheel, where the riders are, at certain points, lying straight on their backs, and the Wild Beast (a wooden roller coaster with some of the most turbulant twists there are - I know - I was dragged on it, once). Whilst in line for the latter, those on the ride (meaning not me, Stacy, Kelly, Katie, or Eugene), were asked by a group of kids what our nametags went. They told them that we were all a band (with 20 people!) and proceeded to "perform" one of "our songs", which was really 'Is Anybody Home?'. Those who heard them obviously weren't too well acquainted with OLP... they didn't catch on, and they believed it all!
Lunch had been scheduled for two in the afternoon, but after the group came off the Wild Beast, everyone was so famished that we decided to eat then, and wait around for a while for those who were supposed to join us. Most people had pizza, yet I bought the 'Spicy Fries' from one of the food joints... not only were they not spicy, yet Miro was right - they tasted like apples! Ah well, it was certainly not the best $7 I ever spent, yet it was (practically) food nonetheless. We stuck around at the tables for a while, swapping pictures from concerts, stories, and signing each others books. Flu and Mike were supposed to join us then, yet after a while we figured that we would run into them eventually.
Right after lunch we went over to the video booth. After a while of debating about who wanted to go in, and what song we were going to do, Kruno, Katie, Katie, Alex, Shivon, and I eventually settled on 'Tubthumping' and each shelled out $10. Kruno took lead vocal, Katie (olpsunflower) and Shivon were on guitar, Alex chose keyboard and 'air sax', and Katie (olpphreak) and I played tambourine. The end result was a lot of jumping, dancing, and fun. The CC is destined to become a musical group, one of these days.
Once the six of us had retrieved our own copies of our performance, and the video staff had played it on the monitors outside of the building for all to see, we headed over to the JetScream, which several CCers went on (and were suspended upside down for about twenty seconds before they flipped over), and a few others went to see part of the Beatles tribute at the theatre. I didn't see it all, but I noticed that the guy on the keyboard actually looked like John Lennon... :)
CC Tradition stated that all those present must go on the White Water Canyon ride, and we did our best to fit it in before ClumsySkywalker (Alex) and I had to leave, at 4 pm, but it just wasn't possible. The entire group came with us to the front gate, where we retrieved our stuff from Stacy's car, and bid us farewell. Although my conversations with CCers who had stayed until the end clued me in to the fact that the remaining CCers got to go on the water ride after all (some of them three consecutive times), and used some of their fellow Congressors as shields so that they didn't get wet. I wish I didn't have to leave so early!
All in all it was a fabulous time. Next year? I am so there!
The next part is filled in by me, Katie, for the parts that Kerry Ann missed
ok, so, after Kerry Ann and Alex left, Stacy told us it was MANDATORY that we go on the water ride. (i *REALLY* didn't want to do this...especially since i was wearing a white tank top) So stacy forced us all to go on, and Savine generously donated her blue t-shirt for me to wear during the ride. (and thank god for that shirt, because i got quite wet!)
So after the water rides, everyone was already soaked, so they decided that since they were already wet, they would go on Timberwolf Falls. A few of us decided against that, so we decided to meet at the front tables for dinner a little while later. About 30-45 minutes later, we were joined by the rest of the group who were DRENCHED. At that point, we all decided that we were going to have New York Fries for dinner, so we walked across the park together to try and find our fries.
Finally we found the fries! yay!! While we were eating, Katie and Ian decided to go on one of those turn-y rides (the one that goes around in a circle, i can't remember what it's called) they came off *TOTALLY* dizzy (the little kids handled the ride better than them!) So then, after i finished eating, Lauren and I decided that we wanted to try the ride out. She took the front car, and i took the second one. i noticed kelly off to the side during the ride, and she was laughing at us :P
Next we decided to try out the bumper cars. We wanted to get on all together as a group, so we ended up letting a whole bunch of people get on in front of us. The bumper cars were SOOO much fun! i ended up hunting down Kelly and hitting her at every chance i got :)
after the bumper cars, kelly left to meet up with some of her other friends, and everyone else decided that they wanted to try Top Gun. while everyone else went on Top Gun, Raven, Eugene and I decided that we weren't brave enough, and we went on the Fury (the octopus ride thingy) and the Great Whale of China. While we were on the Fury, we saw the rest of the group waiting in line at Top Gun, and we waved at them like morons, but they didn't see us....ahh well...
we met up again a little while later, and we decided to go on the Carosel. After that, the rest of the group went on the bat, and Lindsey and i went on Klokwerks. (yay! spinny rides!) Then, Katie decided she wanted to go on the bat one more time...so while a few other people went on the bat, i went back on Klockwerks with Jenn.
Then it was almost time to go home, so stace and i went on a search for funnel cakes, but the place we went to was already closed up. Then the mountain started "erupting" so we made our way to the front of the gates. After the eruption was over, Stace, Amber and I finally found our funnel cakes! then we made our way out of the park, and went home! it was a lovely day! (and i got a lovely sunburn :/ ) Thanks everyone!! :)
(p.s...i'm not sure if i got all the details in, and if they were in the right order...so don't blame me if the story's all wrong!)
